I will be wearing black on January 20, 2005 to grieve the inauguration of
the current man who has been elected President of what could be a very fine
and brilliant country if only . . .

If only our politicians told the truth

If only they were devoted to ending poverty and hunger

If only they were dedicated to insuring that future generations can breathe
fresh air and drink cold water running from mountain streams

If only they went to war for good cause and when all other forms of
negotiations failed

If only they truly embraced spiritual values instead of mouthing the words
spiritual, values, right, goodness to support acts of violence and greed

Thou shalt not kill. The first commandment. Advice from Buddha and the Old
Testament, advice given by all the great spiritual teachers I've
encountered.

Tell the truth. Another great spiritual law.

When a President takes oath that is committed to the above, we will all
rise up and cheer, throw confetti and ring bells, blow trumpets and fall on
our knees in gratitude.

Those of us who are appalled are many; and with those of us who rise up in
protest are the great old trees, the towering ancient mountains, the wide
expanse of mighty oceans and the creatures who don't have the right to vote.

Even an elephant would not vote for this president. Even an ant.
The millions of us around the world will grieve together in black and we
will not give up, we will continue to work towards freedom and justice,
peace, safety and health for all beings.
